Jackson, KY – Bitterly cold conditions remain in place across eastern Kentucky tonight and into Monday morning, with dangerously low wind chills prompting continued weather advisories across the region.

According to the National Weather Service in Jackson, a Cold Weather Advisory remains in effect through 10 a.m. EST Monday, as Arctic air keeps temperatures and wind chills at hazardous levels. Forecasters say advisory criteria is met when temperatures and wind chills fall between 0 and -5 degrees, conditions that are expected across parts of eastern Kentucky through early Monday.

The coldest conditions are anticipated overnight into the early morning hours, when wind chills near 0 degrees could pose a risk of frostbite with prolonged exposure. Residents are urged to limit time outdoors, wear multiple layers, and ensure pets and livestock are properly sheltered from the cold.

The advisory covers a wide portion of eastern Kentucky, including Jackson and surrounding communities, where cold air has remained firmly entrenched following the weekend cold snap. Wind chills will gradually improve later Monday morning as temperatures slowly rise and winds ease.

Forecasters note that while Monday will start bitterly cold, a warming trend is expected to begin later in the day and continue into midweek. Afternoon temperatures on Monday should climb above morning lows, offering some relief after several days of frigid conditions.

Officials also encourage residents to check on elderly neighbors and those without adequate heating, as prolonged cold can be especially dangerous for vulnerable populations. Drivers heading out early Monday should be cautious of icy patches, particularly on bridges and less-traveled roads.

While the worst of the Arctic cold is nearing its end, residents are advised to remain weather-aware and continue following guidance from local officials until temperatures fully moderate.
