Rounds of showers will move across Jackson and eastern Kentucky today, beginning late this morning and continuing through the evening hours, according to the National Weather Service in Jackson, KY. Rain will be widespread at times, and while most precipitation will fall as rain, a cold front moving through later this evening could spark an isolated thunderstorm or two.
Severe weather is not expected, but gusty winds will accompany the system throughout the day. These gusts may be strong at times, especially ahead of the cold front, and could make travel difficult for high-profile vehicles. Residents should also be prepared for occasional downpours and rapidly changing conditions as the front passes.
High temperatures today will reach the mid-50s to lower 60s, keeping conditions relatively mild despite the unsettled weather. As the cold front moves through tonight, temperatures will begin to fall steadily, signaling a transition to colder air for the end of the week.
By Friday morning, much colder conditions will be in place across eastern Kentucky. Highs are expected to range from the lower to middle 40s, with overnight lows dropping into the upper teens to upper 20s. On the backside of the system, there remains a chance for snow showers, particularly during the morning hours. Any snow accumulation is expected to be light and spotty, but brief reductions in visibility are possible.
Looking ahead to Saturday, conditions improve significantly. Skies will turn partly sunny, winds will ease, and temperatures will rebound into the 50s, providing a welcome break from the colder air. Rain chances remain low heading into the weekend, making for quieter and more stable weather.
Residents across Jackson and eastern Kentucky should stay weather-aware today and tonight, especially with gusty winds and changing conditions, but can expect improving weather as the weekend approaches.
