Jackson, MS – Isolated severe storms will be a concern late Monday night into Tuesday across central and western Mississippi, according to the National Weather Service in Jackson. Forecasters say the main hazards will include damaging wind gusts, hail up to quarter size, and a low but non-zero tornado risk.

According to the National Weather Service, a Marginal Risk (Level 1 of 5) has been issued for the region. Storms are expected to develop overnight Monday and continue into Tuesday morning, with some stronger cells possibly persisting into the early afternoon hours.

Locations highlighted include Jackson, Vicksburg, Yazoo City, Philadelphia, Winona, Brookhaven, Natchez, and Greenville. While widespread severe weather is not expected, any stronger storm that develops may produce brief, localized damage.

Forecasters urge residents to stay weather-aware during the overnight hours, when severe storms can be more hazardous due to people being asleep. The NWS recommends having multiple ways to receive warnings, including NOAA Weather Radio, wireless emergency alerts, and local media notifications.

Winds outside of thunderstorms may also be gusty at times as the system moves through. Rainfall is expected to increase through Tuesday, though flooding concerns remain low due to the fast-moving nature of the storms.
