Jackson, MS – Residents across central Mississippi should prepare for a chilly start to Monday, as the National Weather Service in Jackson warns of frost formation with overnight lows between 34°F and 38°F.

The cold morning will especially impact gardens and outdoor vegetation, with meteorologists urging residents to protect sensitive plants by covering them or moving them indoors overnight. Frost is expected to form mainly in rural and low-lying areas before sunrise Monday.

After the cold morning, daytime highs will rebound into the upper 60s and low 70s, bringing a return to pleasant fall weather through the early part of the week. Conditions remain dry and sunny, though another cool night is possible Monday night as light winds and clear skies persist.

The weather service recommends simple frost protection steps — such as using sheets, boxes, or mulch — to prevent damage to plants and flowers as early-season chill settles in.
