Jackson County, FL – A traffic stop in Jackson County turned into a high-speed pursuit Wednesday afternoon, ending with the arrest of a suspect who allegedly fled from deputies and later admitted to using drugs, according to the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies said the chase began around 3:52 p.m. Wednesday after a deputy clocked a tan Chevrolet pickup traveling well above the speed limit on Sand Ridge Church Road, just south of Welcome Church Road. The driver reportedly crossed into oncoming traffic several times before refusing to stop.

According to the sheriff’s office, the pursuit continued through multiple roads before the vehicle turned into a private driveway and stopped. Deputies spoke with the homeowner, who confirmed the truck did not belong to him and allowed officers to enter the residence.

Inside, deputies found the suspect — identified as Anthony Sawyer — hiding in a back bedroom. He was taken into custody without incident. Authorities said Sawyer later admitted he fled law enforcement and had consumed a controlled substance in his possession.

Sawyer faces charges of Aggravated Fleeing and Eluding a Law Enforcement Officer and Tampering or Destruction of Evidence.

The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office praised deputies for their swift actions in ending the pursuit safely.
