Jackson, MS – Central Mississippi is bracing for its coldest night of the season, as forecasters warn of a significant freeze beginning tonight and lasting into Tuesday morning.
According to the National Weather Service in Jackson, temperatures are expected to fall below 28°F for several hours, with nearly all of central and western Mississippi under a Level 3 Freeze Risk. The warning covers communities including Jackson, Yazoo City, Vicksburg, Meridian, and Hattiesburg.
Meteorologists say today’s highs will only reach the upper 40s to near 50, followed by a rapid drop after sunset. Winds will remain breezy, making for a cold and uncomfortable day across the region.
The NWS cautions that unprotected plants and outdoor plumbing could sustain significant damage if left exposed. Residents are urged to bring pets indoors, cover sensitive vegetation, and wrap outdoor pipes.
Temperatures are expected to rebound slightly by midweek, but another round of chilly nights could return later this week.
