Duluth, MN – A period of mixed precipitation is moving across northern Minnesota this morning, bringing a mix of rain, snow, and freezing drizzle across portions of the Iron Range and Arrowhead region, according to the National Weather Service in Duluth.

Forecasters say the system will persist through the morning hours before tapering off by afternoon. Light snow accumulations under one inch are most likely in higher elevations near Grand Marais, Ely, and the North Shore, while freezing drizzle could briefly create slick spots on untreated surfaces.

The NWS notes that any snow that does fall will melt quickly throughout the day as temperatures rise above freezing. Drivers are urged to reduce speed and use caution on secondary roads, bridges, and shaded areas where ice may linger.

By this afternoon, precipitation is expected to diminish, leaving behind cloudy but milder conditions.
