Carroll, Iowa – Drivers across western and northwest Iowa should prepare for slick conditions early Saturday as a fast-moving snow system sweeps across the region. The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory from 5 a.m. to noon Saturday, with snow totals ranging from 1 to 3 inches and locally higher amounts possible.
According to the National Weather Service in Des Moines, snow will begin before sunrise across areas including Carroll, Denison, Pocahontas, and Emmetsburg, tapering off by midday. Morning commuters may encounter reduced visibility and snow-covered roadways, especially along Highways 20 and 71, where surface temperatures are expected to stay below freezing.
Officials urge drivers to slow down and use extra caution, particularly on untreated rural roads and bridges that could become icy. The Iowa DOT recommends checking the 511ia.org app or hotline before traveling.
