Oelwein, IA – The National Weather Service has issued a Wind Advisory for several counties across northeast Iowa, warning of strong gusts that may affect travel and utility lines through this evening.

According to the National Weather Service in La Crosse, southwest winds between 20 to 25 mph, with gusts reaching as high as 45 mph, are expected to persist until 7 p.m. CDT Wednesday. The advisory includes Mitchell, Floyd, Chickasaw, and Fayette Counties, covering communities such as Osage, Charles City, New Hampton, and Oelwein.

Forecasters say unsecured outdoor items may be blown around, and minor tree damage is possible, including fallen branches. There’s also a chance for scattered power outages due to wind-related disruptions.

Residents are urged to use caution, especially drivers operating high-profile vehicles on open roads. The wind could significantly impact vehicle control and increase the risk of roadside hazards.

The National Weather Service advises residents to secure outdoor objects and remain alert for any updates as the weather system moves through the region.
