Des Moines, IA – The National Weather Service in Des Moines reports that a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect for central Iowa through 6 a.m. CST Sunday, December 7, as a mix of light snow and freezing drizzle continues overnight.
The advisory includes Des Moines, Newton, Grinnell, Pella, Knoxville, Oskaloosa, Albia, and Ottumwa, where up to one inch of snow and a light glaze of ice are possible.
According to forecasters, roads across Polk, Jasper, Marion, Mahaska, and Warren Counties may become slick and hazardous, particularly on bridges, overpasses, and untreated surfaces. Drivers traveling early Sunday should plan for reduced traction and limited visibility due to mixed precipitation.
Motorists are advised to reduce speed, allow extra travel time, and use caution, especially during overnight and early-morning hours when temperatures remain below freezing.
