Davenport, Iowa – The Quad Cities area is preparing for a significant weather shift, with severe thunderstorms and the potential for flash flooding on Friday. After a hot and sunny day, residents can expect strong storms to roll in by Friday night. The storms could bring damaging winds, large hail, and localized flooding, posing a threat to both Illinois and Iowa communities along the Mississippi River.

According to the National Weather Service, a hazardous weather outlook is in effect for portions of eastern Iowa, northwestern Illinois, and far northeast Missouri. The primary threat is for thunderstorms Friday, with the possibility of localized flash flooding in low-lying areas. The Rock and Green Rivers in Illinois are already nearing action stage levels, and additional rainfall could exacerbate the situation.

Friday will start with temperatures climbing into the low 90s, with a heat index reaching up to 105°F. This heat and humidity will fuel the incoming storm system. Residents in Davenport, Moline, and surrounding areas should secure loose outdoor items and be prepared for potential power outages. The Iowa Department of Transportation (DOT) and Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) may issue advisories for localized flooding on roadways.

The main severe weather threat is expected to pass by Saturday morning, but there is still a slight chance of storms over the weekend. A cooler and clearer pattern is anticipated to follow. Residents should continue to monitor local weather alerts and have a plan in place to stay safe, especially during the Friday night storms.
