DAVENPORT, Iowa – Early risers across eastern Iowa and northwest Illinois woke to a chilly start Wednesday, with patchy frost possible north of Interstate 80. The National Weather Service in the Quad Cities said temperatures dipped into the upper 30s overnight, with calm winds allowing frost to briefly form in low-lying areas. Sensitive plants and gardens were most at risk before sunrise.

According to the National Weather Service Quad Cities office, conditions will moderate quickly under sunny skies Wednesday, with highs near 67°F and light northeast winds. The weather pattern stays mostly quiet through the weekend, with a steady warming trend as high pressure settles over the Upper Mississippi Valley. Lows will remain cool, dropping into the upper 40s most nights.

Thursday night brings only a slight 20% chance of showers, mainly west of the Mississippi River. By Friday, sunshine returns with highs rising into the low 70s. The warmup continues into the weekend, reaching the mid-70s Saturday and upper 70s by Sunday—nearly 10 degrees above early October averages.

Motorists on I-80 and U.S. 61 should watch for patchy early-morning fog through midweek where ground moisture lingers. Residents are urged to protect outdoor vegetation during any remaining chilly nights and use caution on rural roads before dawn.

No hazardous weather is expected beyond early Wednesday, and spotter activation will not be needed.
