Le Claire, Iowa – A brief but intense tornado ripped through Scott County west of Le Claire on Friday evening, July 11, peeling metal roofing from a building and scattering debris more than 100 yards into a cornfield.
According to the National Weather Service Quad Cities office, the EF-0 tornado touched down at 5:33 p.m. CDT and stayed on the ground for just three minutes, carving a 3.9-mile path with peak winds of 85 mph. The twister reached a maximum width of 75 yards. No injuries or fatalities were reported.
The tornado peeled a 45 x 40-foot section of sheet metal off an outbuilding roof, with minor tree and crop damage reported along the track. One nearby billboard was also damaged. The event marks the latest in a series of summer storms to impact eastern Iowa, though no major road closures or widespread power outages were reported.
Residents in the Le Claire and Great Oaks area are urged to stay alert for any future warnings, especially as July continues to bring unsettled weather to the Quad Cities region. The National Weather Service advises everyone to have multiple ways to receive warnings and to review tornado safety plans.
