The National Weather Service said sustained winds of 25 to 35 mph are expected through the day, with gusts reaching up to 50 mph, especially along and west of Interstate 35. The wind advisory remains in effect until 9 p.m. CST. Forecasters warned that the gusty conditions could blow around unsecured objects, topple tree limbs and cause isolated power outages.
Rain early Thursday morning is expected to mix with or briefly change to snow as colder air pours into the region. Temperatures will fall sharply behind a passing cold front, dropping from the 40s into the teens by Thursday night. Wind chills overnight could dip near zero, making for a cold start to Friday. Skies are expected to clear by Friday, with sunshine but chilly conditions lingering as highs reach only the mid-30s.
The weekend brings gradual improvement. Saturday and Sunday are forecast to be mostly sunny with highs climbing into the upper 30s and lower 40s, offering better conditions for travel and outdoor activities.
