Des Moines, IA – Showers could interrupt the start of summer for Des Moines residents this Memorial Day weekend, with increasing rain chances beginning Friday afternoon and persisting through Monday.

According to the National Weather Service, a slight chance of showers is forecast between 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. Friday. Temperatures will climb to a high near 68°F under increasingly cloudy skies, and while only a 20% chance of precipitation is expected during the day, conditions remain unsettled going into the weekend.

A 50% chance of showers returns Saturday night, with mostly cloudy skies and a low around 51°F. Rainfall amounts are expected to be light, but travelers and event planners should stay alert for updates as weather may disrupt evening outdoor plans.

On Memorial Day, a 40% chance of rain remains in the forecast. Daytime highs are projected near 62°F, cooler than average for late May in central Iowa.
