Quad Cities, Iowa – Strong storms are set to hit eastern Iowa from late Saturday into early Sunday, with damaging winds and heavy rain most likely north of Interstate 80.

According to the National Weather Service in the Quad Cities, a Slight Risk (level 2 out of 5) for severe storms covers areas from Cedar Rapids to Dubuque and Waterloo, with a Marginal Risk (level 1) for cities to the south, including the Quad Cities and Burlington. Storms may bring wind gusts topping 60 mph, capable of downing trees and power lines, while torrential rainfall could lead to flooded roads, especially in low-lying spots and near creeks.

Most storms are expected between 5 p.m. Saturday and 2 a.m. Sunday, catching many residents overnight. Local agencies urge everyone to have multiple ways to receive warnings, as power outages and rapid rises in streams are possible. Hail may accompany the strongest cells, but the main risks will be sudden wind damage and flash flooding.

Areas north of I-80—including Dubuque, Waterloo, and Cedar Rapids—should stay alert for rapidly changing conditions through late Saturday night. More advisories may follow if the threat zone expands or intensifies.
