Davenport, IA – A wintry mix will create hazardous driving conditions across northern Iowa today, particularly along Highway 30 and northward. Residents should prepare for slick spots and fluctuating road conditions as rain transitions to snow overnight.

According to the National Weather Service, a light wintry mix will persist through early Wednesday morning, impacting cities like Cedar Rapids and Maquoketa. Rain will intensify south of the Highway 30 corridor before transitioning to snow after 3 a.m. Winds of up to 30 mph will add to poor visibility for drivers.

The forecast for New Year’s Day in Davenport includes light morning flurries and a high of 29°F, with breezy northwest winds of up to 25 mph. By evening, temperatures will plummet to 22°F, marking a bitterly cold start to 2025.

Later this week, the region can expect a 30% chance of snow Thursday afternoon and colder air arriving Thursday night, with lows dipping to 14°F. Friday will bring sunny skies but freezing temperatures, with highs only reaching 23°F.

Motorists should monitor road conditions and reduce speeds where snow or ice accumulates. Use extra caution during the morning commute, especially in rural areas. Keep emergency kits in vehicles and avoid unnecessary travel during peak weather impacts.
