De Witt, Iowa – Residents in Scott and Clinton counties should prepare for possible flooding along the Wapsipinicon River near De Witt starting Tuesday morning, with water levels expected to reach flood stage by midday. Rising river conditions could impact homes and roads, especially those along old U.S. Highway 61, through early Friday.
According to the National Weather Service in the Quad Cities, a Flood Watch remains in effect from Tuesday morning through early Friday. As of 9:30 a.m. Sunday, the river stage measured 9.3 feet; flooding is likely once the river hits 11.0 feet, a threshold expected late Tuesday. At 11.5 feet, moderate flooding could force water into homes and across low-lying roads in the De Witt area.
Local emergency management teams urge residents to remain alert for changing river conditions and possible evacuation orders. If you live along the river, especially near old U.S. Highway 61, be ready to move valuables to higher ground and avoid driving through water-covered roads. Power outages and limited road access are possible.
This Flood Watch covers both Scott and Clinton counties. Similar events last impacted the area in 2021, prompting road closures and property damage. Stay tuned for updates, as further advisories may be issued if river levels rise faster than expected.
The Flood Watch is cancelled for the Wapsipinicon River near Anamosa Shaw Rd in Linn, Cedar, and Jones counties.
Warnings remain in effect through early Friday morning for De Witt and surrounding communities.
