Carter Lake, Iowa – Western Iowa is waking up to another clear, mild morning, but rising heat and a return of thunderstorms early next week are already on the radar.

According to the National Weather Service in Omaha, sunshine will dominate through the weekend, with highs climbing from the low 80s Friday to near 92°F by Monday afternoon. Overnight lows will remain mild, in the 50s and 60s. Calm winds early in the day will pick up slightly by Sunday, with gusts near 25 mph possible by Monday evening.

Saturday and Sunday will be particularly warm, with highs near 88°F and 90°F respectively. If you’re headed outdoors—especially around Lake Manawa or nearby parks—stay hydrated and limit time in direct sun during peak heat hours.

The next real weather shift arrives late Monday into Tuesday. Showers and thunderstorms are likely Monday night, with additional rounds possible through midweek. South winds will increase ahead of the front, and gusts could exceed 20 mph during the day Tuesday.

Plan for a hot, dry weekend—but be ready for storms to return. Rain chances ramp up late Monday night and could linger through Thursday.
