Quad Cities, IA/IL – Residents in the Quad Cities should prepare for a warm start to October, with highs climbing into the 90s by Friday. This unusual fall heat will affect outdoor plans, commuters, and early Halloween decorating efforts across the region.

According to the National Weather Service, Wednesday will remain mostly cloudy with a high near 85 before skies clear overnight. By Thursday, conditions turn sunny, setting the stage for Friday’s forecasted high of 91 degrees. That makes Friday, October 3, the hottest day of the week and a potential record-setting start to fall in the area.

The unseasonable warmth poses challenges for residents planning yard work, early Halloween displays, or outdoor sports. Officials recommend staying hydrated, limiting strenuous afternoon activities, and keeping pets safe from prolonged sun exposure. With light winds under 5 mph, air may feel stagnant, so those with respiratory conditions should also take precautions.

Traffic impacts remain minimal since no major weather hazards are forecast. However, commuters along I-74, I-80, and I-280 should expect bright sun glare during morning and evening drive times through the weekend. Sunglasses and extra caution are advised.

Looking further ahead, sunny skies dominate the extended forecast. Saturday will bring a high of 88 degrees, with Sunday staying just as warm at 88 under clear skies. The pattern shifts slightly Monday with partly cloudy conditions and a chance for light showers, though highs will still reach the low 80s.

This stretch of early October weather provides ideal conditions for fall events, outdoor sports, and Halloween preparation. Just be ready for a few more summer-like afternoons before cooler air returns later in the month.
