Davenport, Iowa – Water levels are expected to keep rising on several eastern Iowa rivers through Sunday, bringing a lingering summer weather alert to parts of Scott and Clinton Counties. A Flood Watch remains in effect for the Wapsipinicon River near De Witt, where officials warn that water could reach moderate flood stage by late Sunday.

According to the National Weather Service in the Quad Cities, the river stage was 7.9 feet as of Friday night but may climb to 11.5 feet — enough to impact homes near old U.S. Highway 61. The Flood Watch, originally issued Tuesday evening, continues until further notice.

Sunday will bring calmer skies, with mostly sunny conditions and a high near 84°F in Davenport. South winds will shift slightly during the day, staying under 10 mph. Clear skies are expected into Sunday night, with lows near 66°F.

But the quiet stretch won’t last. By Monday, highs will climb to 89°F with partly sunny skies. Tuesday brings a 40% chance of storms after 1 p.m., and that threat increases to 60% by Wednesday, with potential thunderstorms in the afternoon. Rain chances persist into Thursday, keeping flood risks top of mind for residents in low-lying areas.

Five-Day Forecast (Sunday, July 13 – Thursday, July 17):

  • Sunday: Mostly sunny, high 84°F
  • Monday: Partly sunny, high 89°F
  • Tuesday: Chance of storms after 1 p.m., high 86°F
