Carter Lake, Iowa – Thunder and up to two inches of rain could rattle Carter Lake Monday as a powerful storm system moves through eastern Nebraska and western Iowa, threatening to disrupt travel and outdoor plans just as the workweek begins.

According to the National Weather Service, thunderstorms are expected to develop before 10 a.m. Monday, with stronger cells bringing heavy rain, gusts as high as 29 mph, and a risk of localized flooding along I-29 and surrounding low-lying areas. Showers will continue through the evening, with Monday night seeing another round of storms and possible flash flooding.

Rainfall totals could exceed 2 inches between Monday and early Tuesday, prompting concerns for ponding on roads and limited visibility during commutes. The most intense storms are forecast for Monday evening, with strong winds and isolated downpours likely. Residents are urged to secure outdoor items and delay non-essential travel, especially after dark.

By Tuesday, conditions remain unstable. Showers and thunderstorms are expected to redevelop after 1 p.m., with northeast winds increasing to 19 mph and gusting up to 25 mph. Showers may taper off briefly Tuesday night but could return early Wednesday.
