A Heat Advisory remains in effect until 5 p.m. CDT Monday, with Des Moines, Pella, Indianola, and surrounding counties urged to limit outdoor activity and hydrate frequently.

According to the National Weather Service in Des Moines, high humidity and temperatures nearing 93°F will continue to bake areas across Polk, Jasper, Marion, Warren, Lucas, and Madison counties through Monday afternoon. Drivers along Interstate 35 should remain alert for rising cabin temps and heat-stressed vehicles during afternoon commutes.

Relief may come with incoming storm chances beginning Tuesday afternoon, but not without complications. Thunderstorms could bring heavy rainfall and gusty winds to central Iowa by late Tuesday evening, continuing into Wednesday morning. Rain totals could reach a quarter to half an inch in some areas.
