
Scott County, IA – A semi-truck carrying liquid asphalt was hit by a train Wednesday afternoon near the 18300 block of 110th Avenue. The truck failed to stop at a marked railroad crossing, causing a significant spill.
According to the Scott County Sheriff’s Office, the train struck the rear of the truck’s trailer just after noon, tearing it open. Liquid asphalt spilled onto the road, railroad tracks, and a nearby ditch. Authorities confirmed there were no injuries. Cleanup efforts are underway, and the Department of Natural Resources was notified.
The semi-truck driver, from Darien, Wisconsin, was cited for failing to stop at the sign. The road is expected to remain closed until 6 p.m. as crews work to clear the spill and restore safety.
Responding agencies included the Scott County Sheriff’s Office, local fire departments, and hazmat crews. All appropriate safety protocols were in place to prevent further complications.
