La Crosse, Wisconsin – Funnel clouds could form over parts of eastern Iowa and drift into west-central Wisconsin through 4 p.m. Tuesday as thunderstorms move southeast across the region.
According to the National Weather Service in La Crosse, the highest threat zone includes eastern north-central Iowa—stretching from Waterloo to Decorah—before shifting into west-central Wisconsin near La Crosse and Viroqua. While most funnels stay aloft and cause no damage, officials warn that any funnel cloud reaching the ground becomes a tornado.
Residents in the affected areas are urged to monitor sky conditions and weather alerts closely. If a funnel cloud is spotted near the ground, move to a sturdy building immediately and stay away from windows. No tornado warning is currently in effect, but conditions are favorable for quick development.
This type of storm system typically produces brief, weak funnels, but the risk of a touchdown—even if low—can lead to sudden damage or injury.
The threat window remains active through mid-afternoon Tuesday. Further updates may be issued if storms intensify or if tornadoes are confirmed.
