Des Moines, IA – Temperatures are expected to fall into the low to mid-30s tonight across much of Iowa, prompting a Frost Advisory for parts of west-central and north-central areas early Wednesday morning.
According to the US National Weather Service in Des Moines, frost and freezing conditions will develop overnight and continue into the early morning hours Wednesday. Minimum temperatures are forecast to dip into the low 30s in cities including Mason City, Fort Dodge, and Carroll, with Des Moines and Ottumwa seeing lows in the mid-30s.
Officials caution that sensitive plants and crops may be damaged if left unprotected. Residents are advised to cover plants or bring them indoors to prevent frost damage. The advisory remains in effect through Wednesday morning, with additional rounds of frost possible Thursday and Friday mornings as cool air lingers across the region.
The National Weather Service notes that frost and freezing temperatures are most likely between 4 a.m. and 8 a.m. Wednesday, especially in rural and low-lying areas where temperatures could drop below freezing.
Drivers are also urged to use caution during the early morning hours, as patchy frost may reduce visibility on rural roads.
