Warm, dry, and windy weather is increasing fire risk across Iowa today, prompting officials to issue a Red Flag Warning. The National Weather Service warns that any fires that develop could spread quickly due to gusty winds and low humidity.

According to the National Weather Service, the warning is in effect until 8 PM tonight for much of central and southern Iowa, including Des Moines, Davenport, and surrounding counties. Southwest winds will reach 20 to 25 mph, with gusts as high as 35 mph. Humidity levels will drop to as low as 20%, further fueling fire risks. Outdoor burning is strongly discouraged.

Tuesday will bring slightly cooler temperatures, with highs near 54°F in Des Moines and 57°F in Davenport. Winds will shift to the northwest at 10 to 15 mph. By Wednesday, temperatures will rise again to the mid-60s, with mostly sunny skies across the region.

Looking ahead, the five-day forecast indicates a chance of showers and thunderstorms by Friday, which may help ease dry conditions. However, until then, residents should remain cautious and avoid any activities that could spark fires.
