Iowa Severe Weather Alert: 60 MPH Winds, Quarter-Size Hail Until 6:45 PM

Des Moines, IA – A severe thunderstorm warning remains in effect until 6:45 p.m. CDT for multiple counties in central Iowa, including Webster, Pocahontas, Wright, Kossuth, Calhoun, Humboldt, Hancock, Hamilton, and Palo Alto.

According to the National Weather Service in Des Moines, as of 6:03 p.m., severe thunderstorms were moving north at 55 mph. Radar detected wind gusts up to 60 mph and quarter-sized hail, which may cause damage to vehicles, roofs, siding, and trees.

Communities in the storm’s path include Ayrshire, Corwith, Whittemore, Belmond, Laurens, and Emmetsburg. Residents near these areas should take precautions and seek shelter in an interior room on the lowest floor of a sturdy building.

The storm is also affecting parts of Interstate 35 between mile markers 131 and 154, making travel hazardous. Motorists should be prepared for sudden strong winds and reduced visibility due to heavy rain.

The National Weather Service advises residents to remain indoors and monitor local updates for further developments. If conditions worsen, additional warnings may be issued.
