Omaha, NE – A Freeze Warning has been issued for parts of northeast Nebraska and western Iowa as temperatures are expected to drop near 30°F early Wednesday morning, October 22.

According to the National Weather Service in Omaha/Valley, the warning is in effect from 3 a.m. to 9 a.m. CDT Wednesday for Monona County in Iowa and the Nebraska counties of Burt, Cedar, Cuming, Stanton, Thurston, and Wayne.

Forecasters warn that frost and freeze conditions could damage or kill sensitive vegetation, late-season crops, and unprotected outdoor plumbing. Homeowners are encouraged to cover or bring indoors any plants that could be affected by the freezing temperatures.

The cold front responsible for the drop in temperatures will usher in the first widespread freeze of the season for the region. Conditions are expected to improve by mid-morning as temperatures slowly rebound under sunny skies.

Residents are also advised to wrap exposed pipes, drain sprinkler systems, or allow faucets to drip slowly to prevent freeze damage.
