La Crosse, WI – A widespread Freeze Warning has been issued for parts of Iowa, Minnesota, and Wisconsin from 2 a.m. until 9 a.m. Friday, according to the National Weather Service in La Crosse.

Temperatures are forecast to drop into the mid-20s to near 30 degrees, bringing a risk of frost and freeze damage to crops, gardens, and outdoor plumbing. The warning includes areas such as Rochester, La Crosse, Winona, Decorah, Charles City, and Platteville, covering much of north-central and northeast Iowa, southeast Minnesota, and western to central Wisconsin.

According to meteorologists, the cold spell will mark one of the coldest mornings so far this fall, signaling a definite end to the growing season for much of the Upper Midwest.

Residents are urged to cover tender plants, drain outdoor water lines, and ensure that pets and livestock are protected from the cold.

The National Weather Service recommends taking precautions tonight, as temperatures are not expected to rise above freezing in some valleys until mid-morning Friday.
