Quad Cities, IA/IL – Residents of the Quad Cities should prepare for dangerously cold conditions through Tuesday, with wind chills expected to dip as low as -20°F. A slight chance of light snow tonight, primarily south of I-80, could result in slick roadways for commuters early Tuesday morning.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS), temperatures will remain in the teens today, with wind chills ranging from 0 to -13°F. Winds gusting up to 25 mph will make conditions feel even colder. Tonight, temperatures will drop to single digits, while a 20% chance of snow after 1 a.m. could create minor travel hazards.
By Tuesday, mostly sunny skies are expected, but temperatures will hover between 14°F and 18°F, with wind chills near -10°F during the morning hours. Northwest winds will persist, adding to the bitterly cold conditions.
Looking ahead, a gradual warming trend is forecast midweek. By Thursday, temperatures may climb into the low 40s, with Friday bringing a mild high near 45°F under partly cloudy skies. However, below-normal temperatures are expected to return in the latter half of January, with a 70-80% probability, according to NOAA’s 8-14 day outlook.
Residents are advised to bundle up and limit outdoor exposure during the coldest periods. Drivers should exercise caution tonight and early Tuesday morning, especially along Highway 30.
