DAVENPORT, Iowa – Unseasonably warm, dry, and breezy weather will heighten fire danger across the Quad Cities through the weekend, prompting caution from local emergency officials. Temperatures are expected to climb into the upper 80s Saturday and Sunday, with low humidity and gusty south winds increasing the risk of grass and field fires across eastern Iowa and northwest Illinois.

According to the National Weather Service in the Quad Cities, the combination of warmth, dryness, and wind will lead to “elevated fire danger” through Sunday. Residents are urged to avoid burning debris or using open flames outdoors. Even farm equipment or discarded cigarettes could spark fast-moving fires in dry fields.

Storm chances return late Sunday night through Monday as a cold front moves in, bringing a noticeable cooldown and scattered thunderstorms. Severe weather is not currently expected, though showers could linger into early Tuesday.

Officials encourage residents to secure loose outdoor items and avoid outdoor burning through the weekend. Additional updates are likely if winds increase or rainfall is delayed.
