Moline, Illinois – A brewing stretch of hot, stormy weather could disrupt end-of-week plans across the Quad Cities as Illinois braces for thunderstorm chances beginning Thursday and peaking by Friday night.
According to the National Weather Service in the Quad Cities, scattered storms are expected Thursday afternoon, with stronger storms likely west of the Mississippi River. Friday brings a 50% chance of storms after 1 p.m., with a 60% likelihood of heavier rainfall and possible thunder Friday night. Flash flooding, especially near low-lying roads like I-74, is a growing concern heading into the weekend.
Locals should prepare now: Avoid driving through flooded roadways, have backup charging options ready, and monitor alerts through the weekend. While no severe thunderstorm watch is in place yet, conditions could evolve quickly west of the Mississippi and into eastern Iowa.
Thursday’s high will reach near 86°F under partly sunny skies. Friday tops out at 89°F with a continued chance of thunderstorms, followed by more unsettled weather into Saturday. While Saturday looks drier, there’s still a 30% chance of afternoon rain with highs near 84°F.
Sunday turns mostly sunny and mild near 85°F, but storm chances return Monday with highs reaching 88°F and a 30% chance of scattered showers. Another round of storms is possible Tuesday, when temperatures push 91°F.
Warnings could be issued by Friday — stay weather-aware through Monday as summer heat and thunderstorms persist.
