Davenport, Iowa – Strong wind gusts up to 40 mph are already impacting eastern Iowa and western Illinois this morning, creating hazardous travel conditions ahead of incoming rain and thunderstorms.

According to the National Weather Service in the Quad Cities, southwest winds of 20 to 30 mph will persist through the day, with higher gusts possible in northeast Iowa. These winds could make driving difficult on exposed roadways, especially for high-profile vehicles along I-80 and I-74.

Rain chances increase rapidly after sunset, with scattered showers and a few thunderstorms developing tonight. Cities including Cedar Rapids, Iowa City, Moline, and Dubuque will see rain probabilities climb to 50–80% overnight, then surge to 80–95% Thursday night into early Friday.

Temperatures remain mild, reaching 69 to 73 degrees today before cooling slightly into the upper 50s and low 60s by Friday. Periods of rain may reduce visibility and create slick roads during both the Thursday evening and Friday morning commutes.

Residents are urged to secure loose outdoor items today and plan for wet travel conditions late tonight through early Friday.

Showers begin to taper later Friday, but additional updates are expected as the active pattern continues.
