Quad Cities, IA/IL – The region is set to experience a major shift in weather conditions from Tuesday through Wednesday night, with strong winds, thunderstorms, and potential snow impacting travel and daily activities.

According to the National Weather Service Quad Cities, elevated fire danger is expected Tuesday due to gusty southerly winds and dry conditions. A strong storm system is then set to arrive Wednesday and Wednesday night, bringing widespread showers and thunderstorms, some of which may be severe by the afternoon and evening hours.

As colder air moves in behind the system, rain is expected to transition into snow Wednesday night, with strong winds creating potentially hazardous travel conditions. Overnight temperatures could drop into the low 20s, increasing the risk of slick roads and reduced visibility.

By Thursday, drier conditions and seasonal temperatures are forecast to return, with highs in the low to mid-40s. However, another round of rain is possible Friday afternoon and into the night.

Residents are advised to monitor local forecasts, secure loose outdoor items due to high winds, and prepare for changing road conditions by midweek. Travelers should exercise caution, especially during the Wednesday evening commute.V
