Davenport, IA – Residents across eastern Iowa and western Illinois should prepare for scattered thunderstorms tonight, with the potential for brief but strong weather impacts, according to the National Weather Service Quad Cities.

Forecasters say Monday will remain warm and dry for the first official day of fall, with afternoon highs reaching the upper 70s to near 80 degrees. Storm chances will increase overnight, especially in eastern Iowa, where the likelihood of thunderstorms ranges from 20% to 50%.

According to the National Weather Service, the main hazards from tonight’s storms include brief heavy downpours, gusty winds, and small hail. The strongest cells may develop late Monday into early Tuesday morning.

Rain and storm chances will linger through midweek, with showers possible Tuesday night into Wednesday. The probability of storms decreases slightly but remains present, with 20% to 45% chances into Wednesday evening. Conditions should begin to improve by Thursday, with highs in the low to mid-70s and drier weather expected.

The weather pattern marks a seasonal shift as fall begins, bringing unsettled conditions across the Mississippi River Valley. Commuters and travelers in the Quad Cities, Cedar Rapids, Iowa City, and surrounding areas should remain alert for changing conditions, particularly during the evening and overnight hours.

The National Weather Service advises residents to monitor forecasts and be prepared for rapidly changing weather. Motorists are urged to use caution during any downpours and be aware of potential localized flooding in low-lying areas.
