DAVENPORT, Iowa / MOLINE, Illinois – Early risers across the Quad Cities woke to clear skies and calm winds this morning, but a quick weather turnaround is on the way. After a mild and breezy Friday, a fast-moving November storm will bring showers, cooler air, and a taste of early winter before the weekend ends.
According to the National Weather Service in the Quad Cities, clouds will increase through the day with southerly winds picking up to near 25 mph by afternoon. Temperatures will climb into the lower 60s before the next system sweeps across eastern Iowa and western Illinois. Showers are expected to develop Thursday night, tapering Friday morning, before giving way to sunshine and one more mild, dry stretch through Friday afternoon with highs in the mid-60s.
Saturday marks the shift. A fresh front arrives from the northwest with scattered showers by early afternoon. Temperatures will begin to slide sharply as the day progresses, dropping from the low 50s into the 30s by nightfall. Brisk northwest winds could make it feel closer to freezing by Sunday morning, when lows dip into the lower 20s — a true November wake-up call.
Sunday will stay sunny but cold, with highs barely near 36°F and the season’s first widespread frost expected by Monday.
Travelers along I-80 and I-74 should expect wet pavement Saturday afternoon, followed by dry but much colder conditions into Veterans Day week. For now, it’s time to swap the rake for the ice scraper — winter’s edge is closing in fast.
