Iowa and Illinois – Low clouds blanket the Quad Cities this morning, and the air feels brisk at 27 degrees in Moline with a wind chill near 18. Roads are dry for now, but drizzle and steadier rain will build in waves through midweek.
According to the National Weather Service in the Quad Cities, there is a low chance of freezing drizzle along and north of the Highway 20 corridor late tonight. Highs reach 44 degrees today with partial sun. Clouds thicken again by evening, and rain chances increase after midnight.
By Tuesday morning, rain becomes likely across Davenport, Rock Island, Bettendorf, and Moline. Highs reach 47 degrees with a 60 percent chance of precipitation. Showers continue Tuesday night and Wednesday, when highs climb to 52 degrees. Rain chances increase to 70 percent by Wednesday night, and a rumble of thunder is possible.
Plan for wet pavement on I-74, I-80, and River Drive through Wednesday. Leave extra stopping distance during the Tuesday morning drive. This is also flash-freeze season. If skies briefly clear and temperatures drop toward 35 degrees at night, damp bridges can refreeze quickly.
The bigger headline is the March warm-up. Highs push to 58 Thursday and surge to 69 by Friday with widespread rain. After all, we gain nearly 90 extra minutes of daylight across the Upper Midwest this month. Clocks spring ahead at 2 a.m. Sunday, March 8, adding brighter evenings and reinforcing spring vibes.
Long-range trends favor above-normal temperatures into early next week.
