Iowa–Illinois – Warm air is building quickly across the Quad Cities this morning, and that rising heat is setting the stage for storms to develop fast by late afternoon. Roads remain mostly dry early, but conditions will shift sharply heading into the evening.

According to the National Weather Service in the Quad Cities, scattered thunderstorms will develop later today, with stronger storms possible through the evening hours. Some storms may produce hail up to quarter size, frequent lightning, and bursts of heavy rain that reduce visibility.

Davenport, Bettendorf, Rock Island, and Moline will see the highest storm coverage late afternoon into the evening commute. Expect sudden downpours along I-74 and I-80, with slick roads and brief ponding in low-lying areas. Plan extra travel time and avoid water-covered roads.

Storm intensity may increase into the evening as a cold front approaches. While the overall severe risk remains limited today, stronger storms could still produce gusty winds and small hail.

By Friday, calmer weather returns with sunshine and highs near 50°F. Winds shift northwest, bringing cooler and drier air into the region.

Friday night drops to around 26°F, raising the risk of refreezing on damp surfaces. Watch for black ice early Saturday, especially on bridges and untreated roads.

The weekend brings a steady warmup, with sunshine and highs in the low 50s Saturday, then mid to upper 60s Sunday. Early next week turns even warmer, with highs climbing into the 70s and storm chances returning by Monday night.

Conditions will continue to change quickly as spring patterns take hold. Are storms developing in your area yet?
