Davenport, Iowa – Thunderstorms are expected to return by Tuesday afternoon, with the primary threat being lightning across parts of eastern Iowa and northwest Illinois. A summer weather alert is in effect as storm chances build from the Quad Cities down to Fairfield, Iowa, bringing safety concerns for anyone traveling along US-61 and regional highways.

According to the National Weather Service in the Quad Cities, isolated thunderstorms could develop as early as midday Tuesday, with scattered activity likely through Tuesday evening. While severe storms are not guaranteed, there’s a Marginal Risk (Level 1 of 5) for damaging wind gusts and frequent lightning, especially along the I-80 corridor.

By Wednesday, skies will clear and highs will push into the upper 80s. However, the risk of thunderstorms returns Thursday night and Friday, keeping outdoor weekend plans in limbo.
