DAVENPORT, Iowa — Breezy and warmer weather is expected across the Quad Cities region Sunday before thunderstorms move in early this week.
According to the National Weather Service Quad Cities office, sunny skies and southwest winds of 15 to 30 mph are expected Sunday, pushing temperatures into the low to mid-60s across eastern Iowa and western Illinois.
The combination of warm temperatures, dry conditions, and gusty winds may create elevated fire danger, particularly in rural areas with dry vegetation.
Conditions are expected to change Monday as a developing weather system brings increasing chances of rain during the afternoon and evening hours. High temperatures Monday could reach the upper 60s to low 70s across the region.
Forecasters say thunderstorms are likely Tuesday, with some storms potentially becoming strong to severe as warmer air spreads north across the Midwest.
High temperatures Tuesday may range from the mid-60s in northwest Iowa to the upper 70s farther south, helping fuel storm development.
Some storms could also produce periods of heavy rainfall, which may lead to localized travel impacts during the evening hours.
Behind the system, cooler and windier conditions are expected Wednesday, with highs dropping into the 40s and lower 50s as northwest winds increase.
The midweek storms could affect commuters and students Tuesday evening as weather conditions become more active across the Quad Cities region.
