Davenport, Iowa – Dangerous storms are set to roll through eastern Iowa and western Illinois this weekend, with several rounds of severe thunderstorms likely overnight Friday through early Sunday. Flash flooding and damaging winds are the top threats, especially in the Quad Cities and surrounding counties.

According to the National Weather Service in the Quad Cities, the first round of storms could arrive late Friday night, with the most active periods expected during overnight hours through Sunday morning. The storms may bring frequent lightning, wind gusts strong enough to knock down branches, and heavy rainfall — especially in areas that get hit more than once.

Urban centers like Davenport, Rock Island, and Moline face an increased risk of flash flooding due to saturated ground and repeated rainfall. Rural counties along the Mississippi River should also monitor for renewed river flooding if rainfall totals rise quickly. Residents are urged to have multiple ways to receive weather alerts, particularly overnight.

If traveling, never drive through flooded roads. With storm chances at 30–60% each night and high humidity fueling the atmosphere, this system could resemble similar multi-day events from past Julys.

Warnings remain in effect through Sunday morning, and additional advisories could be issued.
