Davenport, Iowa – A strong cold front pushing through the Midwest will bring the risk of severe thunderstorms and heavy rain to the Quad Cities region beginning Tuesday afternoon and lasting through Tuesday night. Residents across eastern Iowa and northwest Illinois could see damaging winds, hail, and localized flooding by nightfall.

According to the National Weather Service in the Quad Cities, storm chances rise sharply after midday Tuesday, with rain and thunderstorm probabilities hitting 70–100% by Tuesday evening. Breezy conditions ahead of the front could elevate storm severity, especially in counties like Rock Island, Scott, and Clinton. Smoke-filled skies will persist Monday, but will gradually give way to cooler, stormy conditions.

Heavy rainfall could lead to hazardous road conditions on I-80, I-74, and U.S. 61. Residents are urged to avoid non-essential travel during peak storm hours and ensure mobile devices are charged ahead of possible power outages.

Temperatures will cool significantly after the front passes, with highs dipping into the low 70s Wednesday and Thursday. Rain chances return again late Thursday, continuing the region’s unsettled pattern.

⚠️ Warnings remain in effect through Tuesday night. Continue monitoring for updates from NWS Quad Cities.
