DAVENPORT, Iowa – A stretch of quiet, mild fall weather is about to shift as a strong system targets the Iowa-Illinois border with rain and thunderstorms late Friday into Saturday. Warm, breezy conditions will dominate until then, but roads along I-80 and I-74 could become slick by the weekend’s midpoint.

According to the National Weather Service in the Quad Cities, Thursday will stay mostly sunny with highs in the upper 70s. Friday looks warmer, climbing to near 82°F under partly sunny skies and increasing humidity. Winds will gust up to 25 mph from the south, signaling the arrival of a cold front that will sweep through the region by late Friday night.

Showers and isolated thunderstorms are expected to develop after sunset Friday, continuing into Saturday morning. Some pockets of heavy rainfall could briefly reduce visibility for drivers, particularly during early travel hours Saturday. Rainfall amounts of a half inch to one inch are possible, with the heaviest rain likely near Davenport, Rock Island, and Moline.

By Sunday, skies will clear and temperatures will dip into the low 60s — perfect for fall markets, pumpkin patches, and outdoor festivals. Looking ahead, early next week stays dry and seasonable before light showers return around Tuesday.

Residents are encouraged to secure outdoor decorations ahead of Friday’s winds and keep travel plans flexible Saturday morning.
