DAVENPORT, IOWA – After a weekend of scattered storms, residents in eastern Iowa and western Illinois can expect a mix of sun and showers through the Labor Day weekend. Thunderstorms are possible this afternoon and Sunday afternoon, bringing with them a chance of rain and persistent humidity across the region.

According to the National Weather Service, the primary threat for today is a few isolated thunderstorms, mainly affecting eastern Iowa. The probability for more widespread hazardous weather is currently low. Patchy fog is expected to develop tonight into Sunday morning, particularly in low-lying areas, which could affect early morning commutes.

By Sunday, temperatures are expected to climb, reaching highs in the upper 70s. This pattern of warm temperatures and muggy conditions will continue into the start of the next work week, with highs nearing the 80s by Labor Day. While sunshine will make a return, the chance for pop-up showers remains, especially during the afternoon hours. Motorists should be aware of potentially slick roads and reduced visibility due to fog and rain.

Warnings and advisories remain in effect for several counties, including Scott, Muscatine, Des Moines, and Clinton in Iowa, as well as Rock Island, Whiteside, and Henry counties in Illinois. These conditions are expected to persist until early next week, with a broader shift to more stable conditions on the horizon.
