Davenport, IA – Residents across eastern Iowa and western Illinois could see their first measurable rainfall in nearly two weeks late Sunday night into Monday, according to the National Weather Service (NWS) Quad Cities.
The agency reported that scattered showers and isolated rumbles of thunder are expected between midnight and 6 p.m. Monday, with the highest rain coverage west of the Mississippi River and north of Interstate 80.
According to the NWS, rainfall totals are expected to remain under 0.25 inches for most areas, meaning the precipitation is unlikely to ease ongoing dry conditions. The last measurable rain in the region fell on September 23.
Forecasters say some lightning is possible, though severe weather is not anticipated. Residents may notice brief periods of heavier rain or isolated thunder early Monday morning before the system moves eastward by late afternoon.
The light rain marks a brief shift from the dry pattern that has persisted through much of late September and early October. Temperatures are expected to remain near seasonal averages following the showers.
