Iowa and Illinois wake up to a cold, gray morning as light snow drifts across the Quad Cities, lightly coating rooftops and leaving slick patches on untreated roads. Temperatures hover near 26°F, and that cold bite is enough to keep surfaces icy through the early commute.
According to the National Weather Service in the Quad Cities, light snow continues early, especially across northwest Illinois and adjacent areas of northeast Iowa. Minor accumulations, generally up to around an inch, may create patchy travel issues, particularly on side streets and bridges.
Drivers along I-80, I-74, and River Drive should use caution through late morning. Roads may look just wet, but thin ice can linger underneath. Plan extra time and avoid sudden braking, especially near ramps and shaded stretches.
Conditions begin improving by midday as clouds break and temperatures rise toward 45°F. Melting will help clear most surfaces, but standing water could refreeze later as temperatures dip again tonight near 35°F. That sets up a classic flash-freeze risk in spots after sunset.
The pattern shifts quickly toward spring. Thursday turns mostly sunny with highs near 55°F, followed by a stronger warm-up Friday with temperatures reaching around 69°F—just in time for the first full day of spring.
Saturday brings even warmer air, with sunshine pushing highs near 74°F. By Sunday, clouds return and temperatures settle near 63°F, keeping conditions mild and manageable.
