Davenport, Iowa – Drivers across eastern Iowa and western Illinois could see minor travel slowdowns late Wednesday as a weak system brings occasional light snow to close out 2025, followed by a colder start to the New Year.
According to the National Weather Service in the Quad Cities, light snow is expected to develop Wednesday morning and continue into the afternoon, with accumulations generally up to one inch. While snowfall amounts remain limited, even light accumulation could create slick spots on untreated roads, especially during periods of reduced visibility.
The snow will affect much of the Quad Cities region, including Davenport, Bettendorf, Moline, Rock Island, and surrounding rural highways. Officials note that the system lacks significant moisture, but brief bursts of snow could still slow traffic during peak travel hours. Motorists are encouraged to allow extra time and monitor road conditions if heading out late Wednesday.
By midnight on New Year’s Eve, colder air will settle in behind the system. Wind chills around 0 to 10 degrees above zero are expected north of Interstate 80, adding an extra layer of concern for anyone spending extended time outdoors.
Drier weather is expected to start 2026, though cold conditions will linger. No winter advisories are currently posted, but officials continue to monitor conditions in case travel impacts increase late Wednesday.
