Davenport, Iowa – Drivers across eastern Iowa and western Illinois could encounter slick roads and reduced visibility late tonight into Thursday morning as light snow and flurries spread across the region, creating minor but potentially hazardous travel conditions.
According to the National Weather Service in the Quad Cities, light snow is expected to develop after 3 a.m. north of Interstate 80, with the highest chance for a dusting of accumulation along and north of the Highway 20 corridor, including areas east of Manchester, Iowa, by sunrise. While snowfall amounts are expected to remain light, untreated roads and bridges could become slippery during the early morning commute.
Snow chances continue into Thursday morning north and east of a Belle Plaine, Iowa to Galesburg, Illinois line. A dusting is possible east of a Dubuque, Iowa to Princeton, Illinois line, including parts of northeast Iowa and northwest Illinois. Visibility may briefly drop during periods of steadier flurries, especially in open rural areas.
Another round of light snow is possible late Thursday night into Friday morning, primarily east of a Dubuque to Kewanee line. Any additional accumulation is expected to be spotty, but repeated light snowfall could lead to icy patches, particularly on secondary roads.
While this is not expected to be a major winter storm, officials urge drivers to slow down, allow extra travel time, and watch for slick spots, especially during overnight and early morning hours. No spotter activation is expected, but conditions will be monitored closely as light snow moves through the region.
