Iowa-Illinois Weather Alert: Davenport Faces 105°F Heat Index, Cooling Trend by Wednesday

DAVENPORT, Iowa – Residents across the Quad Cities are bracing for another sweltering day as heat index values climb as high as 105°F on Sunday before thunderstorms arrive early in the week. The National Weather Service has issued a Heat Advisory in effect until 8 p.m. Sunday, urging people to limit outdoor activity and stay hydrated.

According to the National Weather Service in the Quad Cities, Sunday’s high is expected near 92°F under mostly sunny skies. Southerly winds and high humidity will keep conditions dangerous through the afternoon. Overnight, temperatures will only fall to about 71°F with light winds, offering little relief.

By Monday, showers and thunderstorms are expected to develop in the afternoon, with rain chances near 50% by night. Highs will again push into the lower 90s, with a heat index topping 100°F before storms cool things down. Tuesday brings a noticeable break with highs in the upper 80s, followed by even cooler readings in the low 80s by Wednesday.

Travelers and outdoor workers should take extra precautions, including frequent breaks in shade and carrying water. Officials recommend checking on vulnerable neighbors and avoiding strenuous activity during peak afternoon heat.

Conditions are expected to moderate midweek, but additional advisories may be issued if storms strengthen.
